Versatile Products started in the eddy current business in 1982. Our primary business was crack detection probes for the automotive and aircraft industry and heat treat inspection probes for the automotive industry.  Over the next five or so years we branched into many different industries and developed many new part inspection systems.  Industries included power plants (nuclear, coal and hydroelectric), railroad, mining, petroleum and military.

Within a few years we, along with Real Time Ware, developed one of the first thread verification systems. These systems were originally meant to determine if a bolt hole, drilled and threaded on an automated machining center, was present and had threads.  This system would quickly be adapted to verify many different kinds of machined details (splines, groves, gear teeth, keyways, etc.) as well as presence of parts or assemblies such as weld nuts, bushings and washers.
